Questions

How does scanning work?

Point your camera at the ingredient list, or pick a photo of it. Kyeol reads the text on your iPhone, matches each name to its standard ingredient name (INCI; Korean names through 식품의약품안전처 data), then checks each ingredient against its rules. The same label always gives the same result.

For the best read: good light, the label as flat as you can, and the whole list in the frame. Kyeol reads English, INCI and Korean labels. Japanese labels are not supported yet.

Why does a flag appear?

A flag means an ingredient on the list is linked to something in a published source: clogged pores, fungal acne, pregnancy, fragrance allergens, irritation, or an ingredient on your own avoid list. Each flag shows the ingredient, where it sits in the list, one line on why, and the source.

A flag is not a verdict on the product. Amount, formula and your own skin all matter, and many products with a flagged ingredient work well for many people.

What do the evidence levels mean?

Every flag carries a label for how strong its source is:

  • Weak evidence (animal study): clogged-pore (comedogenic) scores come from rabbit-ear tests (Fulton, 1989). Rabbit-ear results do not transfer directly to people, and many products with these ingredients do not clog pores.
  • Lab studies: for example, fungal acne flags based on which oils and esters feed Malassezia yeast in the lab.
  • Professional guidance: for example, pregnancy flags based on guidance from bodies such as ACOG.
  • EU regulation: for example, the fragrance allergens listed in Regulation (EU) 2023/1545.
  • Literature review: for example, irritation flags based on published reviews.
  • Source not yet checked in full: we have not yet read the original source end to end.

In Settings, "Stronger evidence only" hides flags based on animal studies or sources we have not checked in full.

Is Kyeol medical advice?

No. Kyeol shares information about ingredients from published sources. It does not judge your skin or any condition. For your own skin, ask a dermatologist, and during pregnancy, ask your doctor or midwife.

Kyeol misread a label or missed an ingredient

Email us the product name and what looks wrong. A photo of the label helps, but only if you want to send one; the app never sends photos itself.

How do I cancel my subscription?
  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
  2. Tap your name, then Subscriptions.
  3. Choose Kyeol Plus and tap Cancel Subscription.

Cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends to avoid the next charge. If you cancel during the free trial, you are not charged. After that, Plus stays on until the end of the period you already paid for. Your shelf and past results stay open either way.

How do I restore my purchase?

Open Kyeol, go to Settings and tap Restore purchases. Use the same Apple Account you bought Kyeol Plus with. Plus works on every iPhone signed in to that Apple Account.

How do I get a refund?

Purchases are handled by Apple, so refunds are too. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.

How do I delete my data?

Everything you save stays on your iPhone. Swipe to delete a product on your shelf, or delete the app to remove all of it. There is no account. Kyeol also sends usage statistics and crash reports with no name, photo or label content in them; they are deleted after 14 months (crash reports after 90 days). Subscription records kept by RevenueCat are deleted on request. See the privacy policy.
