Privacy policy

Effective:

gig (sole proprietor Kim Dongjun, "we") makes Kyeol. This policy explains what the app handles and where it goes. The short version: Kyeol reads ingredient labels on your iPhone. Your photos, your scans and your shelf stay on your device, there is no account, and we do not receive any of it. What we do receive is usage statistics, crash reports and subscription records that carry no name, email, photo or label content, described below.

Photos and the camera

Kyeol uses the camera, or a picture you pick from your photo library, only to read an ingredient list. Text recognition runs on your iPhone with Apple's Vision framework. Photos are not uploaded anywhere, and Kyeol does not keep them after reading.

When you pick a picture from your library, Kyeol only sees that one picture, not the rest of your library.

What stays on your iPhone

If you save a product, Kyeol keeps its name, the date and the ingredient text it read, so it can show the result again. It never keeps the photo. Your avoid list, the skin concerns you choose, your strictness setting and the number of free scans used are kept on your iPhone too.

This data lives in Kyeol's own storage on your device. If you back up your iPhone with iCloud or a computer, it can be included in that backup under Apple's terms; we cannot read it.

To remove it, swipe to delete a product on your shelf, edit your avoid list in Settings, or delete the app, which removes everything.

No account, no server

Kyeol has no sign-in and no server of its own. Your photos, label text, shelf, avoid list and settings never leave your iPhone. The app connects only to Apple and RevenueCat, for purchases, and to Google Firebase, for the usage statistics and crash reports described below.

Kyeol has no ads, does not use the advertising identifier, does not track you across apps or websites, and does not sell or share personal information.

Purchases

Kyeol Plus is sold through Apple with StoreKit. Apple handles payment under its own privacy policy, and we never see your name or card details. To check whether Plus is active, the app uses RevenueCat, described under Subscription records below.

Usage statistics and crash reports

Kyeol uses Google Analytics for Firebase and Firebase Crashlytics, provided by Google LLC (United States), to see which features are used and to fix crashes. Kyeol uses the version of Google Analytics without the advertising identifier (IDFA) and never asks for permission to track you.

What is sent: a short, fixed list of events. Onboarding finished, scan started, scan finished, result opened, flag detail opened, product saved to the shelf, share card created, Explain simply used, paywall shown, restore purchases tapped and its result (restored, nothing found or failed), free trial started and subscription bought. A free trial or purchase carries only the product (yearly or monthly), never the price. A finished scan carries only numbers and categories: how many ingredients were found, the label language (Korean, English or mixed), the share of names Kyeol did not recognise and how long reading took (both in bands), and the number of flags. A flag detail carries only the flag type. Google Analytics also records App Store purchase events (product, price and currency).

Firebase adds a random app instance ID created when the app is installed, the app version, device model, iOS version, language, a general region derived from your IP address (Google does not keep the IP address itself), and session times. Crash reports contain the stack trace, the state of the app and device at the moment of the crash, and a random Crashlytics installation ID.

What is never sent: photos, label text, ingredient lists, product names, your shelf and your avoid list. Kyeol sets no user ID and has no account, so these records are not tied to your name or email. Nothing is used for advertising: Google signals and ad personalisation are turned off.

Retention: event data is deleted after 14 months, crash reports after 90 days. Test builds send nothing.

Overseas transfer: the data above is sent to Google LLC in the United States over an encrypted connection while you use the app, for the purposes and retention periods above. There is no switch for this in the app yet; if you do not want it sent, do not use the app or delete it. The app works the same either way.

Deleting it: because these records carry only a random ID, we usually cannot pick out one person's records. Email kimdongjun6570@gmail.com and we will help as far as we can, for example by submitting a deletion request to Google. Deleting the app ends collection, and a new install starts with a new random ID.

Subscription records

Kyeol uses RevenueCat, provided by RevenueCat, Inc. (United States), to check whether Kyeol Plus is active, to keep it working when you restore or change phones, to prevent fraud and to count trials, subscriptions and renewals.

What is sent: a random app user ID that RevenueCat creates when the app is installed (it is not your name, email or Apple Account), your App Store purchase records for Kyeol Plus (product, dates of purchase, renewal and expiry, trial status, transaction IDs, price, currency and App Store country), and technical details: app version, iOS version, device type and language. Your IP address is used to deliver each request.

What is never sent: your name, email, Apple Account details, payment card, photos, label text, shelf and avoid list. Kyeol sets no user ID of its own and adds nothing else to these records, so they are not tied to your name or email. They are not used for advertising.

Retention: kept while Kyeol uses RevenueCat, because a subscription has to be checked for as long as it can renew. We delete a record on request.

Overseas transfer: the data above is sent to RevenueCat, Inc. in the United States over an encrypted connection when the app starts, when you buy and when you restore, for the purposes and retention above. There is no switch for this in the app; if you do not want it sent, do not use the app or delete it.

Deleting it: email kimdongjun6570@gmail.com. Because the records carry only a random ID, we may ask for a detail from your App Store receipt, such as the order ID, to find yours. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription; cancel it in Settings first.

Your choices and rights

Your shelf, avoid list and settings stay on your iPhone, so you can view, change or delete them in the app at any time. For usage statistics and crash reports, see above.
